Today, Shamin and Betty traveled one and a half hours to a place called Somerset West, located in Western Cape. There, they visited the Cotlands Hospice. This hospice cares for around 25 to 30 children who are abandoned, orphaned, abused, HIV positive, etc. The oldest child was five years old.
Cotlands Hospice opened in 2003. They have a wall commemorating all who have passed away. Many students from the nearby university volunteer with them. Cotlands Hospice is funded by donations from corporations and some relatively small donations from the government.
Betty and Shamin also went to a pharmacy at Somerset West Mall to inquire about purchasing vitamins and herbal supplements.
So far, Children’s AIDS Health Program has had a very big impact on the lives of well over 100 Canadians and 200 South African children and youth. We care about children of all different races, genders, sexualities. 92% of donations go to program funding. 8% goes to administration. However, we need continued financial support in order to continue our programming. Any mission we take on has a great many costs. We still need support while our travelers are on their current mission. Please donate!
