Our Mission Diary

Shamin and Betty began the day by going back to the Gateway Theatre Shopping Centre. They set their booth up at SUPERSPAR, a grocery store inside the mall. The point of today’s activities was to educate the public by handing out information sheets about HIV/AIDS and informing people about the mission to South Africa, the places our pair have visited and the workshops they have had. They had a game of “Myth or Fact” where players would have to tell Shamin or Betty whether a line about HIV/AIDS was a myth or a fact. Betty and Shamin distributed hats to people who participated in their game and got the correct answer.
Afterwards, they got the chance to meet both the world’s tallest man and the world’s shortest man in a store called GAME. They discussed the possibility of partnering up with these people to hold a Children’s AIDS Health Program event in Toronto.
Later, our travelers went to SunCoast Casino and spoke live on EastCoast Radio, Durban’s number one radio station. They gave the listening public an overview of the organization, mentioned the website (www.LetsStopAIDS.org), and explained Children’s AIDS Health Program’s mission and objectives and what has been accomplished through the workshops.
During this trip, Children’s AIDS Health Program has been helping people in South Africa not only by providing vitamins and medication and by increasing people’s understanding of HIV/AIDS, we have also been assisting in teaching sports, leadership, arts. Although Children’s AIDS Health Program is very grateful for all the generous support we’ve received for this mission, we are still down about $1,000 for this trip. We need continued support and donations.
