Betty and Shamin began the day with a morning flight to Durban. A special thanks goes to South African Airways for offering discounted tickets to aid our pair in our travels. They arrived at the airport around 6:00AM to drop off their rented car and load their luggage onto the plane. Their plane took off from Johannesburg International Airport at around 8:00AM and landed in Durban International Airport at around 9:10AM. From the airport, they headed to their hotel, the Tropicana Hotel at Marine Parade in central Durban. Upon arrival at the hotel, Shamin and Betty met with a the Gender AIDS Forum group, a diverse activist group made up of individuals of different ages, sexualities and educational backgrounds.
Over lunch, Betty and Shamin had a chance to speak to a few of the members of the group and explain their objectives and the reasons they are visiting the country. During this time, they were also able to gain an understanding of the Gender AIDS Forum and form international connections that could be used by Children’s AIDS Health Program in the future.
After lunch, they made their way to the Gateway Theatre Shopping Centre, the largest mall in the Southern Hemisphere. Stay tuned for more information about the Gateway Theatre Shopping Centre Events hosted by the Children’s AIDS Health Program tomorrow.
